The DPA is one of the largest conservation groups on Dartmoor. Last year our volunteers put in an astonishing 800 man days of conservation work on the moor. We undertake a range of different conservation projects during the course of a year, depending on the season - mainly gorse and scrub clearance in the autumn and winter and bracken bashing in the summer.

There is a regular team of volunteers, mainly DPA members but not all, and they are always pleased to see a new face.

Getting started

We usually meet up at 10am and work through until 3pm, with breaks for drinks and lunch. There is no compulsion to stay for the whole day if it isn't convenient for you, but if you are going to arrive late it is best to let the organiser know. You will be told where the meeting point for the day is in advance, but the actual work site can be some distance away.

Help Wanted

Here’s another simple way to help the DPA that will only cost a few hours of your time.

Each year we produce Christmas cards to sell to members and the general public. In order to sell outside the membership we need to package them attractively in a cellophane pack. To save costs we do all the packaging ourselves. Well, actually the bulk of the packaging in the last two years has been done by one valiant volunteer. Can you help with this ? If you live nearby (ie in one of the towns close to the edge of the moor) or can collect material from Princetown then we would much appreciate your help.

Although simple, the job is important as the cards are a source of revenue.for the DPA. But it’s very time consuming for one person so your help will be very welcome.

Please call the office on 01822 890646 to let us know that you can help with this.
